If you leave them outside for a few months and suddenly bring them inside months later will they be housetrained is your question? Nope absolutely not, all they’ve learned is to potty wherever they want and will continue to do so in the house because they haven’t learned the house is their den, because you haven’t taken the time to train them on it by leaving them outside to do as they please. Dogs must learn the different between a the house “den” and the designated potty spots through housebreaking, outside dogs cannot be expected to know the different when it hasn’t been taught.

It will work……….the point of crate training is to treat them a boundary. In the crate, no pee or poop. Out of the crate pee and poop. BOTTOM LINE. I am sure you will get slammed for wanting to crate train your dogs outside. But it will help for you to take them inside for small trips and back outside to do their business. Crate them all night so they learn to hold it. Let them out in the morning and praise them for “going”. When they start to get the hang of things, move your crates inside for overnight sleeping and then take them outside just like you were doing. Stay consistent. Don’t let them run free all night, consistency is key here. It is important to acclimate them to your house so taking them in for small periods of time and increasing that time is great. It is also a good idea to let them out, let them “go” and then bring them inside for a short time. It will actually work better than trying to crate train them inside, take them out and then back inside. If your goal is to make them house dogs in the long run make sure the visits into the house keep progressing to longer periods of time even if you start with 3 minutes! Good Luck!
