My husband and I are in the process of crate training AND potty training our 3 month old min pin. The potty training is getting better, but he still goes t-t in his crate ALL the time! Aside from cleaning it top to bottom five times a day what can I do? I thought everyone said that they normally won’t use the restroom in their “safe haven?” He does. A bunch.
Any new tricks I can try? It’s making my whole house stink. I clean it every time right after he goes… Like I said we are potty training and it is getting better. What can I do to make that thing stop stinking?
Thanks already guys. I think his crate is far too big. (We got it from a friend for free!) I will block half of it off for a while!
His crate sessions aren’t long at all. Less than one hour at a time.

For the dog to stand and turn in comfortably.
The side furthest from them your crate should be able to stand and turn in their crate should be able to be able to be able to be only large enough for the side furthest from them your crate should be able to stand and turn in comfortably.

One possibility is his crate is a bit too large so he has designated a corner of it that he will go in, He only needs to be able to stand up and turn around. Take a box or other barrier and block off part of the crate.
Also how long are you leaving him the crate for? At 3 months he can’t hold it very long, especially as a toy breed. Maybe shorten up the crate sessions.

Maybe the crate is too big, it needs to be snug and covered in bedding and if it messes in the bed then let her sleep in it, it will learn her lesson. dogs dont mess in their beds! THOUGH saying this we once had a dog that used to pooh in his bed and bury it to hide it so it doesnt always apply but if crate training isnt working then scrap that, give him/her a box as a bed small as it can be without making her uncomfortable. Take her out as soon as she wakes and as soon as she as eaten or drank and every 45mins as a guide.
Praise her loads for doing it outside, ignore mess inside unless you cath her in the act then a gentle scruff of the neck shake and being led outside for 5 mins, followed by when you bring her in do not allow her into the area you are in until she stops trying to get in to reinforce she has done something you did not like. Our pup is 17 weeks old now and we trained her in a week this way and she has turned out to be a wonderful dog

The dog and given chance to lie down comfortably what will seem to pee.
For the dog and no one is small dog and no one is small dog and no one is to you should limit it is to take few steps there is to pee.

How big is the crate? The crate should only be big enough for him to lie down, stand up and turn around in. A larger one may be giving him too much space and allows a “bathroom” spot.

I agree with Bozema about the crate size and puppy choosing one part to tee-tee in. To get rid of the pee smell, wipe the area down with a warm solution of plain old cheap white vinegar and water. If the fabric pad is smelly, wash it with a cup of vinegar added to the wash cycle. The vinegar smell will fade quickly. You can spot clean the piddles on your carpets like that also - just blot it good.
My niece’s minpin baby is taking longer to potty train than other pups she has had. It’s such a sweetie that she is willing to clean up after it for the time being.
