crate training a puppy?

crate training a puppy?

We have a 6 month old yorkie (we have had him since the end of May). We are crate training him. He has mastered NOT going in the crate, but he keeps going in the house.

I hear yorkies are hard to train, but we have a 3 year old yorkie who was crate trained with no problems.

What are some tricks we can try to teach puppy that outside is the correct place to go? We are moving to a new home soon and I want to get this under control before then. Thanks!
We always take him straight out from his crate and praise him for going “potty”. However, in the house, he seems to wait to long to go to the door and dribbles across the floor on his way to the door. It’s like he hasn’t learned the feeling of when he needs to go to the door before it is too late. We never had this problem with our other yorkie. However this yorkie is tiny (2 lbs at 6 months) so I don’t know if that has something to do with it.

talk in a different voice to praise him/her when she dose something or let the new puppy send time with the older yorky maybe there pick up something from the older dog or go to wall mart and buy stuff that keeps them from going on the floor

Make sure you are not leaving him in the crate too long - does he have to go so bad that he can’t make it to the door?

Second, make sure you have a floor cleaner that specifically rids the area of pet odor. Any trace of odor left on the floor will cause your dog to continue to return to the same area and do his business.

Try this - take a paper towel and get some of his pee on it. Then, take him outside and rub the paper towel on the ground where you want him to go. He should smell his own scent in the grass and go there.

    Good luck!

When you take him out of his crate, immediately take him outside. When he goes, give him lots of praise. You can use a command like “dump it”, “go potty”, or anything else. But don’t use one that’s likely to come up in casual conversation - dogs can learn to go on command. Service dogs are typically trained to do this, But if you suceed in this, and use a common phrase as the command, and just happen to use it at the wrong time….
If you catch him in the act, scold him, scoop him up and take him out. When he finishes, praise him. Do not rub his nose in it or punish him - a firm “no” should be enough. If you don’t catch him in the act, don’t scold or punish, just clean it up and wait until the next chance.

    Faith trust is right
But a little trick added to that is
All ways take your dog out through the same door saying OUT all the way to the door
then a little down the road if you catch him sniffing or he’s acting as though he has to go when you say OUT he will run straight for the door
